One of the assumptions behind the creation of HRI was that - there are dozens and dozens of highly skilled people in the local area - and around the world - who for any number of reasons, are unable to travel or hold a full-time job that requires them to leave their home and show up for work everyday.
We all know of mom's with Master's degree's who love their kids more than their careers - but who still want to stay up to date in their professions - and even better, get paid for doing what they are good at. But, they just aren't willing to leave the kids with strangers for the sake of their careers. And - it isn't just kids - sometimes a spouse has to move to take a new job and the partner loves them enough to tag along - even when their isn't anything available where they're going. Sometimes elderly parents need to be looked after; and sometimes - there "just ain't anything available".
In times past this resource has been unable to do a "normal day's work" because of the need to communicate with co-workers face to face, access documents that are in restricted files, access business systems that only exist within the walls of the company - and so on. In today's world - Broadband communication access and cloud based applications are quickly removing many of the restrictions - so that "going to the office" every morning just isn't necessary for many, many tasks.
HRI is striving to tap those hidden resources by providing an infrastructure that allows real work to be done for serious projects (which doesn't mean they are only "for profit" projects).
If you know of - professional grade talent which is immobilized but web enabled - tell them about Hammond River Institute which can use their talent wherever they are - without time restrictions and on their terms.
