The High Speed Carrier Drone (HSCD) is a sub-project of the String City project hri08zc.
This is the high speed drone which will carry passenger and freight along the route and allowing loading operations to occur at between virtually any point.
The HSCD will have a design speed of 2 to 3 times normal highway speeds in an enclosed controlled path free of normal random interferences that open roads often have - such as Moose, matresses flying off trailers, super aggresive drivers or drivers who should never have had a license in the first place.
While not intended to be a replacement for tractor trailers or railroads - the bulk of most freight comes in much smaller lumps delivrable by smaller drones such as the Multi Modal Transport Pod (MMTP) - which is designed for human transport - or a variety of freight drones capapble of loads often delvered in pick-up trucks.
The HSCD would pull over (either by-request or as scheduled) into an exit lane and allow discharge of the local drone in an automated environment controlled by a supervisory system - (as opposed to suddenly slamming on the brakes in the middle of traffic.) The secondary drone can then find its own way to the nearest exit and finish its delivery.
Most of the traffic will be to and from the "villages" along the String City route comprising either existing towns or the new flexible housing campuses envisioned in the hri06b project. (This project is designed for people who want to invest in the parts of a home they can take with them if they have to move, or expand or contract as family needs require.)
